Folorunsho Alakija, once richest black woman on Earth, was born on July 15, 1951, in Ikorodu, Lagos State to the family of Chief L.A. Ogbara. She traveled to the United Kingdoms at age seven for her primary school education at Dinorben School for Girls in Hafodunos Hall in Llangernyw, Wale. She studied secretarial studies at Pitman’s Central College, London. Afterward, she also attended the American College, London and the Central School of Fashion to study fashion design.

Folorunsho began her career in 1974 as an executive secretary at Sijuade Enterprises in Lagos, Nigeria. She continued at the First National Bank of Chicago, now FinBank for a number of years. Afterward, she established Supreme Stitches, a tailoring company. She ventured into Oil and gas in 1993. She amassed so much wealth and was once referred to as the richest black woman in the world. She is worth $1.09 billion, the largest among 3 women in the list of 10 richest men in Nigeria.
