On Friday October 2, US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump almost broke Twitter after disclosing that they had tested positive for coronavirus just one month before the US election.

Now White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has revealed to reporters that the President and First lady “remain in good spirits” but confirmed Trump “does have mild symptoms”.

“He continues to be, not only in good spirits, but very energetic,” Mr Meadows said. “I’m optimistic that he will have a quick and speedy recovery.” First lady Melania Trump later tweeted that she is “overall feeling good.”

Despite his diagnosis, Meadows said Trump is “staying committed to working very hard on behalf of the American people.” He added, saying, “We have a president that is not only on the job, will remain on the job, and I’m optimistic that he’ll have a very quick and speedy recovery.”

In other news, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari prayed for a quick recovery for Trump and his wife, in a goodwill message released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

“President Muhammadu Buhari joins all citizens of United States of America in prayers for quick and full recovery of President Donald Trump and his wife, Melanie, who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19,” the goodwill message titled, ‘President Buhari wishes US President, Trump, family quick recovery’ read.

It added, “The President notes, with sympathy, that the incident of COVID-19 in the White House manifests the challenge posed by the pandemic across the world, and difficulty in containing the spread.

“While wishing the American First Family speedy turnaround in their current health status, President Buhari urges more compliance among Nigerians to protocols, and adherence to advice of medical doctors, particularly epidemiologists.”
