Insecurity: Bandits Kill Five Soldiers In Zamfara

Despite the military intervention in Zamfara State, five soldiers have been killed by bandits in the Wanzamai community in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, confirmed the attack in an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday.

Dosara stated that the soldiers were killed in an ambush on their vehicle during a military operation in the area on Wednesday, adding that the bandits took away their rifles.

The commissioner, however, failed to give the casualty figures during the interview.

Naija News reports that Wanzamai community, located 60 km away from Gusau, the state capital, had suffered a series of attacks by the bandits in the last four years.

Recall that the state House of Assembly had suspended two lawmakers; Yusuf Muhammad Anka representing Anka Constituency, and Ibrahim T. Tukur Bakura, representing Bakura constituency, over their alleged ties to bandits.

According to the Director-General Press Affairs and Public Relations of the Assembly, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the lawmakers will stay off the assembly pending the conclusion of investigations into allegations levelled against them.

“They are also to appear before the House Committee on ethics and privileges in conjunction with security agencies that are assigned by law to investigate them.

“These are part of the resolutions reached just now at the House plenary presided over the speaker of the House Rt Hon Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya under matters of urgent public importance,” he said.
