Fury made between £3.5m and £5m from his breakthrough fight against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, held at the 55,000-capacity Espirit Arena in Dusseldorf and backed by millions of pay-per-view buys on television.
He catapulted his earning power by walking away with Klitschko’s cabinet of belts after comprehensively outfoxing the revered Ukrainian over 12 rounds.
He spent three years away from the sport dealing with personal problems in the aftermath of his surprise win, which cost him his titles, but returned in 2018, signing an agreement with representatives MTK Global.
At the end of the year, his basic pay for the draw in the Deontay Wilder fight in Los Angeles was around £2.5m, a fight many thought he should have won.
His earnings rose to around £7m based on pay-per-view money, which Fury said he had donated to homeless charities.
His TV deal with ESPN is worth £80m, roughly tripling his value and putting him alongside the likes of Anthony Joshua and golfer Rory McIlroy among Britain’s wealthiest athletes.
Now worth well over £100m, the Gypsy King is one of the most feared fighters in the heavyweight division, boasting an unbeaten record spanning 29 fights.
A fight with Joshua looks a distant prospect after the Londoner’s shock defeat to underdog Andy Ruiz on his US debut.
Speaking about Joshua’s devastating loss to the little-known Mexican-American, Fury said: “It doesn’t disappoint me because it’s just another one biting the dust, isn’t it?
“I’ve been in this game 11 years as a pro now. I’ve seen so many hot prospects come and go – champions, not champions, people retired, finished, burnt out.
“But guess what? I’m still here. Life is a beach – I’m just playing in the sand.”
Steve Bunce said: “He looks faster, slimmer and is clearly better mentally. He is getting close to optimum.”
Mike Costello, 5 Live’s boxing commentator, added: “Wallin was a key sparring partner for Anthony Joshua.
“He is not unknown but looking online he does look slow on his feet, so he will be beaten for speed, variety and class, it seems.”Pls SUBSCRIBE below to our mailing list to get fresh updates on money making and inspiring articles.
